Assam refugees to be resettled

New Delhi, Aug 1 : In today’s three-hour eve-of-the-session discussion of the Congress Parliamentary Party Mr Nehru declared that Government of India would make every endeavour to resettle the refugees in their respective homes in Assam.

Mr Nehru said that the problem should be tackled not only by providing security to the people through the military and the police but also by creating committees in every mohalla and village to help the people in settling down to their normal life.

The West Bengal members present at the meeting said that adequate protection should be given to all the Bengali-speaking people in Assam while the Assam members traced the recent trouble tot he “control” exercised by Bengali officials over the services in Assam.

The party also discussed the recent Central Government employees’ strike.
