Rains cause another flood in Assam

In Assam, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of Barak Valley are once again hit by fresh flood following heavy rains in catchment areas.

Vast low-lying areas of the valley have been submerged by the flood waters of Barak, Katakhal, Kushiara and other rivers. Hundreds of families are forced to take shelter in the relief camps and other safer places.

In Silchar circle of Cachar district alone, over one lakh ten thousand people have been affected by the flood. In Karimganj district, a fifty metre long barbed wire fencing along neighbouring Bangladesh has been breached by the surging water of Kushiara River.

Another two hundred metres of barbed fencing area are also threatened by the river.
