Guwahati, May 25 : A day after security forces claimed of gunning down two Bodo militants near Misamari in northern Assams Sonitpur district, locals today alleged that the slain persons were not militants.
An irate public gheraoed the Misamari police station, alleging that the two were killed in a fake encounter by the security personnel.
The security forces had yesterday claimed of killing two National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFD) rebels in an encounter near Misamari, along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
Arms and ammunition were also reportedly recovered from the slain persons. The identification of the two bodies was done by local people of Misamari today and they claimed that both were innocent. The locals gheraoed the Misamari police station in protest. Top police officials have rushed to the spot to pacify the people and bring the situation under control.
