Silchar, Nov. 22: The army’s 11th Artillery Regiment seized a large cache of arms and arrested three Kuki rebels at Meghnathal hamlet, nearly 55km from here last night.
The army deposited the arms at Lakhipur police station in Cachar district this afternoon.
The police said the seized arms, included nine SLRs, one AK-56, six LMGs, one two-inch mortar,16 grenades and 502 pieces of cartridges.
They added that these weapons were part of the arms looted by Kuki rebels from Chekarcham border outpost of the 15 IRB on the Assam-Manipur border in the district on November 14 night.
The arrested rebels confessed that they belonged to a newly raised Kuki tribal guerrilla outfit named the United Tribal Revolutionary Army, active in Manipur.
Suicide
Pratap Singh, 55, a BSF inspector posted at Patamari border outpost in Dhubri district, shot himself with his service revolver on Sunday.
His body was brought to Dhubri Civil Hospital for a post-mortem. The reason for the suicide is not known.
Seized: Assam Rifles troops seized 365 pangolin shells and 111,160 tablets of a banned medicine from three persons at Lamkhang in Chandel district today.
