Guwahati, June 5 : Unseeded Assam tandem of Jonaid Tohsif and Sushanta Mohanty today annexed the boys’ doubles crown in the OIL-AITA Super Series Under-14 Tennis Tournament at Chachal Tennis Complex here. Tohsif and Mohanty defeated the fourth seed pair of Assam boys Arindam Dutta and Delhi partner Shuarya Dhankar in straight sets of 7-5, 6-2 for the title. Uttar Pradesh siblings Malini Sinha and Nandini Sinha lifted the girls’ doubles title, defeating the Orissa tandem of Seeulee Upadhyaya and Ojaswinee Singh 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-8 in the final this evening. In the boys’ singles, fourth seed P. Vignesh Prabhu of Tamil Nadu will meet second seed Shashank Nautiyal of Delhi in the final tomorrow. In the semi-finals today, Prabhu eliminated S.D. Prahlad Dev of Karnataka 6-3, 6-1 while Nautiyal prevailed over Assam boy Arindam Dutta 6-0, 6-3. In the girls’ final, Seeulee Upadhyaya of Orissa set up a final clash with fifth seed Malini Sinha of Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. While Sinha defeated Sumeera Kamil of Delhi 6-0, 6-2, Upadhyaya edged past Bhavani Balakumar of Tamil Nadu 7-5, 6-3 in the semi-finals today. |
