Charges of neglect on NC Hills administration

Serious allegations of sheer neglect by the NC Hills district administration towards those injured in militant attacks in the district are making the rounds.

In a recent attack allegedly by DHD(J) rebels on a private truck requisitioned by the administration and entailed for security duty at Wadrengdisa under Maibang police station, one sub-inspector of the Sasashtra Seema Bal was killed while a constable, the driver, a helper and two villagers were injured.

The driver and the other civilians injured in the attack were admitted to the Haflong Civil Hospital where they are alleged to be under a state of utter neglect.

No official of the administration has so far bothered to visit the hospital to enquire about their condition nor has any government assistance come forth for the injured.

The locals resent that proper treatment facilities are not available to the poor civilians even if they sustained injury while on government duty. In contrast, the security personnel injured in the attack were shifted to Guwahati for better treatment.

Two other persons seriously injured in an attack by suspected DHD(J) militants on a train between Dautuhaja and Wadrengdisa on 10th April are also presently languishing at the hospital in a state of neglect.

Talking to News Live, the duo said that they have not received any government assistance nor has any government official visited the hospital to enquire about their plight.

On the other hand, the owners of trucks and Sumos have said that the district administration has not cleared the dues to the tune of lakhs for requisitioning their vehicles on earlier occasions.

Further, with attacks by militants becoming a regular affair in the face of utter failure by the administration to enforce even a semblance of administration, the vehicle owners feel that requisitioning process by the authorities might only deprive them and their families of two meals a day, leave alone other basic necessities of life.
