IMPHAL, Jan 29 : The Manipur People`s Liberation Front, MPLF, has in a press release thanked the people of Manipur for sending out the message loud and clear that they have nothing to celebrate India`s Republic Day or other such functions as they are meaningless to them.
It also called the government`s act of penalising seven school principals for not having their school participate in the Republic Day parade as a cowardly of find a scapegoat when it is unable to tackle its real challengers. It said the public of Manipur as well as the students community should stand steadfastly behind the suspended principals.
It said Indian democracy today has been proven to be a farce before the world by incidents such as the flashing of bundles of currency notes in the Indian parliament during a session. Yet in Manipur, behind the veil of this democracy, the people are being intimidated, killed, arrested at will to gag and subjugate them, it said.
It said the only way to get free of this oppression is to fight for freedom, calling upon the people to heed this warning.
Further, the MPLF statement said those who defied its boycott call would not be taken lightly.
