Four UGs killed since yesterday

IMPHAL, Jan 29 : Four underground elements were killed in encounters with the security forces since yesterday.

In and encounter with Imphal west police commandos a suspected UG activist was killed today at the bank of Imphal river at Khuman Lampak under Imphal police station. Three others were also killed in different incidents.

According to the police, they saw a person present in a suspicious manner at the bank of the river at Khuman Lampak and when asked to stop the person tried to hurl a hand grenade. In retaliation the police fired back at the person who died on the spot.

A license in the name of Th Haridas, son of Th Deben of Churachandpur Khumujam Leikai and Rs. 20 was found in his pockets along with a hand grenade.

In another incident yesterday, according to specific information a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and 21st Assam Rifles entered Ireng under Kakching police station where suspected KCP(MC) cadres fired upon them.

In the exchange of fire a person was killed and some others escaped. A hand grenade was recovered from the deceased.

In another incident, after getting information on extortion being carried out by some UG activists, the Imphal west police commandos reached Chongtham Kona under Wangoi police station and found around five persons who fired at the security men when asked to stop. In the retaliatory fire one person got killed and the others ran away.

One 9 mm pistol with two live rounds was recovered from the deceased.

Yesterday around 4.45 pm Thoubal police commandos entered Ngariyan Andro hill and saw three to four persons loitering there in an suspicious manner and when asked to stop the persons fired upon the police.

One person was found killed after being hit by a bullet in the exchange of fire while the others managed to escape. One 9 mm pistol with three live rounds was recovered from the deceased.
