Medals galore for Assam

Guwahati, Feb. 17 : Assam today tallied a silver and bronze medal in sepak takraw in the ongoing 34th National Games at Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

While the Assam women bagged silver in the team event, their male counterparts had to remain content with bronze today. The women went down to Manipur 0-2 for the silver while Nagaland tallied the bronze defeating Andhra Pradesh 2-0.

In the men’s team event, Assam got the better of Mizoram 2-1 for the bronze.

Manipur won the gold defeating Delhi 2-0. Assam has, so far, tallied 17 medals, including two gold and four silver, in the mage event since Saturday.

The two gold medals came in lawn bowls. The tandem of Mridul Bora and Ruptu Gogoi took top spot in the men’s pairs and the team of internationals Manu Kumari Pal and Nayanmoni Saikia and rookie Ananya Saikia bagged the other gold in women’s triples.

The lawn bowlers had so far tallied a silver and a bronze medal. The silver came in men’s triples by the team, comprising Ananda Kumar Narzary, Mridul Borgohain and Mohd Raja.

Bongita Hazarika and Tania Choudhury had to remain content with bronze in the women’s pairs.

Another discipline where Assam have so far tallied two silver and eight bronze medals is wushu.

Rajandra Gharti Magar won a silver in men’s sanshou below-56kg and Sunita Devi Moirangthem bagged another in women’s sanshou below-60kg.

While Assam were placed 12th in the tally today, Manipur were leading the tally with 19 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.
