JORHAT, Nov 27 – “A favourable atmosphere has been created for tourism in Assam during the last few years. And the introduction of tea tourism has added a new dimension to it”, said Rockybul Hussain, Minister of Forest, Environment and Tourism, after inaugurating the second Assam Tea Tourism Festival at Jorhat Court Field today.
In his inaugural speech Hussain recalled the history of Assam tea and the contributions of the pioneers of tea industry in the state.
He also discussed the potentiality of attracting tourists by the tea industry of Assam.
The minister further said that the State Government is mulling organising another festival here entitled Jorhat Utsav which would provide the people from Jorhat living outside the district and abroad a chance to get together after a certain interval of one or two years.
He also said that the process of making tea from the tea leaves, from planting till processing in the factory could be an attractive art to be watched by foreign tourists. He released the souvenir entitled ‘Destination-T at the function.
