Assam CM directs speedy implementation of budget-related schemes

Guwahati, Oct 6 : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today reviewed the budget-related schemes with ministers and senior officials of Forest and Environment, Tourism, I and PRD, Handloom and Textiles, Sericulture and Judicial departments here.

Minister for Tourism, Forests and Environment Rockybul Hussain apprised the chief minister of the host of initiatives taken by the department to boost the tourism sector.

He said regular shows projecting the tourism sector will be held in cinema halls, besides making of quickie and documentaries to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

Internationally acclaimed film director Jahnu Baruah has been roped in to popularise the tourism sector in a big way, Hussain added.

Hussain informed the chief minister that public toilets under Sulabh International would be set up in public places along national and state highways.

The chief minister asked Hussain to initiate steps to install the Lachit Bordoloi statue on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati.

On the forest front, Hussain said steps have been taken up by the department to plant saplings in 20,000 hectares across the state.

The process to raise the Assam Forest Protection Force was also on, he added.

Gogoi asked Hussain, who is also holding the Information and Public Relations (I and PR) department, to project the state's development in proper perspective through booklets, banners, hoardings, quickie and documentary.

The chief minister emphasized on the need to extend the fixed loud speaker system to newer areas of the state.

Mr Gogoi asked Minister for Handloom Textiles and Sericulture Pranab Gogoi to complete the process of distribution of yarn and blanket to 20,000 beneficiaries in each constituency by December.

He directed the minister to implement the Special Programme for production of Mejenkari Muga Silk.

The chief minister also reviewed the health insurance scheme for weavers.

Mr Gogoi asked Pranab Gogoi, who is also holding the judicial portfolio, to take immediate steps to dispose off the pending cases.
