Guwahati, Sept 23 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace, order, communal harmony and tranquility ahead of Friday's pronouncement of the Ayodhya title verdict.
Appealing to the public and the media to reserve their opinions on the judgement of the Special Bench of Allahabad High Court, Gogoi said, Assam, the land of Srimanta Sankaradeva and Ajan Fakir, is always a place of love and harmony, and a role model for communal harmony."It is the duty of every citizen to preserve its tradition at this hour.
Total communal harmony must be maintained whatever may be the judgement because the aggrieved party has the opportunity to go for appeal in the Supreme Court, he said.
The Chief Minister also said that it was the governments earnest hope that all sections of people would cooperate with the Government in maintaining law and order, communal harmony and tranquility in the State and not to give room for any trouble mongers.
Gogoi further said he had directed the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to beef up security to deal with any law and order problem that may arise after the court verdict on the Ayodhya title suit.
