Guwahati, Aug 12 : Assam Education Minister Gautam Bora today said the state government will appoint 8000 teachers shortly to fill vacancies in various schools across the state.
''Around 8000 posts of teachers are lying vacant and the state government has already decided to fill up all the vacancies,'' Bora said at a press conference here.
He added that the education department has taken up steps to appoint additional teachers on contractual basis in various schools, where there is shortage teaching staff.
Announcing changes in the primary and secondary structure of schools, Mr Bora said, ''From next academic session, Class V will be included in the lower primary section and Class VIII will be taken in the upper primary section.''
''Further, Class IX and Class X will be included in secondary education,'' he added.
The minister further informed that the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus will be introduced from Class I to Class VIII in the state from next academic year.
