Multiple postings of govt officials irk public

HAFLONG, July 5 – At a time when unemployment problem has surfaced as a burning question in the State and no sincere effort of the Government has been visible regarding the solution of unemployment of the educated youths of the State, some officials are given charges of more than three offices in the district of Dima Hasao who cannot attend to or address the public at the same time in all the offices resulting in public harassment and encouragement to corruption.

One Laxman Jaishi, an assistant engineer has been given the charge of Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads) Mahur subdivision and again the charge of Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Mahur Division by driving out one full-fledged Executive Engineer for reasons best known to the authority concerned. People alleged that as a good amount of fund has been released to this division for works and the charge of Executive Engineer was given to Jaishi so that some vested persons can misappropriate funds.

N Buragohain Extension Officer, has been given the charges of Superintendent of Sericulture, Assistant Director and also the charge of Additional Director, Sericulture. Interestingly, Buragohain has been staying in Dima Hasao district since 1992. As it is obvious, a man with so many posts cannot discharge his duties properly. Sericulture is considered to be the most important for the Dimasas.

There has been a longstanding demand of the people of Dima Hasao district at least with regard to some important posts like Deputy Commissioner and Principal Secretary of N C Hills Autonomous Council that these should not be given to one person but the Government never pays any heed to their demand. Anil Baruah was holding the charges of both Principal Secretary and Deputy Commissioner for a long time when the entire episode of multi-crore N C Hills scam happened. The prime accused in the multi-crore R H Khan was also given multiple charges resulting in such scam. Now also the Government of Assam has given the charge of Deputy Commissioner and Principal Secretary, NCHAC to Dilip Borthakur.
