GUWAHATI: Assam sports minister Bharat Chandra Narah today hoped that archers from the state would bring laurels in the forthcoming Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
Inaugurating the 30th Sahara Senior Nationals Archery Championship (Recurve and Compound) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Narah said that the state government has given all help to promote sports in the state so that players can compete successfully at the international level.
The state government presented a cheque of Rs1.50 lakh to Assam lad Sanjay Bor who had won an individual bronze at the World Youth Archery Championship held at Ogden in USA.
Altogether 359 archers, representing 38 teams, are participating in the three-day event.
Prominent international archers participating in the tournament are Jayanta Talukdar, Belsry Narzary, Rajiv Basumatary, Nayanmaoni Nath, Dola Banerjee, Bombilla Devi and Pratima Devi among others.
