Guwahati: Assam government has outlined a comprehensive reforms process in the power sector which promises to fulfil the demands of the people, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said.
"A comprehensive reforms process in the power sector has started bearing fruits and the power generation within the state is projected to reach 1682 million units during the current year as compared to 820 million units in 2001," Gogoi said in a recent meeting.
Karbi Langpi hydro-electric power project which was languishing for over two decades was completed and has been running well, Gogoi said in the meeting on power projects. Expressing happiness that despite 30 per cent drop in hydro-power generation due to drought-like situation, Gogoi said, "The state-owned Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) and its successor companies will supply approximately 12.5 per cent more power to consumers as compared to last year."
"Our capacity to meet peak demand is now 1000 MW as compared to only 450 MW before the reform process was started in 2003-04," he said.
