Guwahati, Aug 15 The Assam government today allayed fears of swine flu gripping the state and said out of the 11 suspected cases seven had tested negative, while status of samples of four others was awaited.
"There is no cause of worry over swine flu as the state is well equipped to tide over any such crisis," Assam Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters here.
Samples of suspected victims are sent to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at Lahowal in Dibrugarh and unlike in other states the reports are made available within 24 hours, Sarma said.
One person with suspected symptoms of swine flu was admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and has been kept in the isolation ward, Sarma said.
