Guwahati, June 2 : In a deal struck with Ulfa, the NDFB agreed to help the proscribed outfit in the abduction of FCI executive director P.C. Ram without being involved in the negotiation process as the Centre had extended ceasefire with it, sources said today.
According to them, Ram was handed over to Ulfa by the Bodo outfit in Baksa district after the abduction.
“The outfits agreed to share the ransom amount,” sources said.
The matter came to light following the interrogation of Nareswar Basumatary, 40, an NDFB cadre arrested on Saturday night by a CBI team from Tamulpur where he was hiding in the residence of his brother-in-law. Basumatary is at present in CBI custody.
Police sources said before abducting Ram on April 17, 2007, Basumatary and his accomplices had made two failed attempts to abduct the official.
Basumatary would keep close tabs on Ram’s movement. Basumatary, a businessman, was a resident of Kachari Bosti area of the city, sources said.
