More NREGS awareness now in rural areas

Imphal, June 2 : “The people of Manipur especially in the rural areas are now aware of the NREGS scheme, which was once under many misconceptions,” said S Nabakumar Singh, project officer, DRDA Imphal west, during a one-day workshop on NREGS imphal west district, that was held on Monday at the GM hall in Imphal.

The awareness programme was organized by the DC programme co-ordinator Imphal west. While giving his keynote address S Nabakumar Singh said that according to the Central Government this scheme should provide 100 days programme to job card holders, but the present situation is the other way round. People were however becoming aware of the programme especially in rural areas, he added.

The DC Imphal west and also the programme co-ordinator of the scheme, while delivering his speech said that the suggestion from various sections would be more meaningful for the better implementation of the scheme in the coming years.

According to a pradhan of Kodonpokpi people living in the rural areas especially those living below poverty line are benefiting through this programme. He asserted that it could be more successful if there could be more co-operation from various concerned sections including the pradhans and members. Another pradhan of Changagei stated that the problems faced by the members were lack of instruments.
