ASDC member dies in Army custody

SILCHAR, May 2 : Tension gripped Haflong town today as one of the ASDC founder members was found dead in Assam Rifles’ custody again. Ladeng Jidung (47), one of the founder members of the ASDC was lifted by Assam Rifles personnel yesterday from his residence at Suratnagar.

Today morning they brought Jidung in an unconscious state to Haflong Civil Hospital but the attending doctors declared him brought dead. His body was later handed over to his family after post-mortem. Meanwhile, Assam Rifles source said, Jidung’s health deteriorated yesterday night and he was rushed to the hospital, but he died on his way to the hospital.
They said the incident was unfortunate. On the other hand, family members of Jidung as well as a group of ASDC members refused to accept the version of the Assam Rifles and alleged that he was murdered cold-bloodedly by the Assam Rifles.
