Cong worried about AGP-BJP pact: Bijoya

GUWAHATI, March 18 - The national vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the BJP-AGP alliance candidate for the prestigious Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency Bijoya Chakravorty on Tuesday said that the combined force was the only alternative to the Congress. Addressing mediapersons here, Chakravorty said that the AGP-BJP understanding has created fear in the Congress camp and she also asserted that in the future, this alliance will spell the doom of the Congress.

“The AGP and BJP workers and leaders have put up the force with their sincere dedication and in the near future we are confident that we will be able to totally rout the Congress,” said Chakravorty.

The senior BJP leader further said that the coming parliamentary elections would also be a test for the journalists of the State who have been playing a neutral and courageous role in all affairs of the State barring a few.

Chakravorty while singing some more praises of the AGP and the BJP said that unlike the situation in some parties, the leaders of the AGP and the BJP have scaled heights in politics on their own merit and not on the basis of a family lineage.

Divulging her schemes for the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency on being elected, Chakravorty said that her first priority would be to find a permanent solution to the problem of water scarcity.

“I know the problems of my constituency, whether it is the rural or urban areas, I have studied the problem,” said Chakravorty.

It needs to be mentioned here Chakravorty had won the Lok Sabha elections from the Guwahati constituency in 1999. She had polled 3,84,771 or 45.81 percentage of votes in the constituency that has 10 assembly segments.

Chakravorty also made another election promise by stating that she would try to resolve the problem of the landless people of the capital city.
