DIBRUGARH, Jan 13 The massive highway development plan for the two states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has been finalised, with engineers of the MoRTH and Assam PWD finalising the new highway alignments in the past few days.
At the initiative of the MoRTH (Union ministry of shipping, road transport and highways), Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will have new highways, both four and two laned. The Trans Arunachal Highway is a part of the scheme, and will connect Seppa in East Kameng district with Kanubari in Tirap district, covering 1412 kilometres.
An additional national highway is planned between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Apart from road over bridges (ROBs) at a couple of places, the Sadiya Bridge over the Lohit, to connect Chapakhowa with Dholla will vastly improve road communication in Sadiya.
According to PWD engineers, the proposed national highway alignments for the Dibrugarh bypass and the Bogibeel bridge approaches have also been finalised. They said that financial estimates for all the projects will be ready by March this year, and that tenders for the works will be floated by September this year. They informed that all the projects are scheduled for completion by 2012-13.
