GOLAGHAT, Dec 28 – The Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammitte (KMSS) of Bokakhat sub-division has expressed concern for not taking adequate steps by the Government for the flood-affected people of Bokakhat.
The KMSS has submitted a memorandum with a 14-point charter of demands to the State Government recently and if the govt fails to solve their problems the organisation has resolved to launch a democratic agitation soon, the office-bearers informed.
The charter of demands of the KMSS are: Protection of the people from flood, erosion, 12 bighas of land each should be distributed to the flood and erosion-affected people, Issue of land pattas to the landless people of Bhakat Sapori, Panbari and Garmur areas, providing irrigation system to the farmers, special economic package should be announced for the neighbouring people of Kaziranga National Park, to provide funds for compensating depredation by wild animals of KNP, to protect the cultivated lands from the wildlife of KNP, to construct pucca roads and bridges over the Gelabeel river, to complete construction of the Gelabeel bridge of Mahuramukh, to develop the Dusutimukh and Mohuramukh health centers into 30-bed hospitals, to establish three veterinary hospitals in Bokakhat sub-division, to start NREGA schemes, to provide DPS system, to electrify elephant depredation areas, and to solve the land problem of Tengani, Doyang and Rongma areas, among others.
Road Safety Week: A meeting of the District Road Safety Sammittee was recently held at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat under the presidentship of Horendra Nath Bora, DC, Golaghat.
In the meeting a discussion on observing the 20th Road Safety Week at Golaghat was held. The week would start from January 1 to 7. The programmes will include procession with slogans like – ‘Drive carefully, reach alive’, to examine the pollution content of vehicles, meeting on awareness to point Zebra crossings on roads, etc.
The meeting was addressed by Dr Ajit Barua, Chairman of GMB, BB Gogoi, Additional SP, F Rahman, Executive Engineer (Roads) Purna Rajkhowa, President of bus owners’ association Dr P Nath, SMO, etc. Earlier, RS Ahmed, DTO, explained the objective of the meeting.
Welcomed: The district committee of the Journalists’ Guild of Golaghat has congratulated Rong Bong Terang on being nominated president of the Sahitya Sabha.
Upen Dutta, president of the Journalists’ Guild of Golaghat has felt that Terang as the newly nominated president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha will be able to cement Assamese literature and culture through his bold and generous writings, besides working for all-round development of the apex literary organisation.
Malik remembered: Sankardev award winning litterature Syed Abdul Malik was remembered by the people of Golaghat on December 20.
On the occasion the Jatya Vidyalaya of Naharani organised a smirticharan where several speakers underlined the manifold literary achievement of late Malik.
The well-wishers of Late Abdul Malik had already established a library and museum in memory of the great writer. An NGO named Uttar-Pub Gramga Samaj established a flower garden in front of the residence of the late Malik and all the necessary activities regarding its development have been done.
The NGO has also appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat to help in maintaining the garden by offering funds, etc.
